Between snow squalls and bursts of sunshine
We walked the shoreline
of Plum Island,
Husky with iolite eyes
digging in the sand.
Finding pretty shells and sea glass,
Sisters place these treasures in my hands,
Gifts of the sea
to bring home with me.
Holding them in my cold, wet,
wave-kissed hands
Close to my heart, sitting on driftwood,
Watching the surf roll in and out,
Foam lacing the wet sand,
sparkling in the afternoon sunlight.
Plovers peck for snacks,
Then fly away over the slate-blue
ocean waves.
*After recording the poem, I was inspired to change “move” to “roll” (line 13).
*A #tinywinterpoem (“Shoreline” prompt from
)* The flute music behind my poem is also provided by me. The tune is “Southampton" from Titanic.
Gorgeous words. I’ve never heard of iolite, just looked it up. Beautiful imagery & enjoyed listening to the recording. Thank you 🙏
💙 So glad you enjoyed it, Artemis My friend with the husky's favorite gemstone is iolite. When I learned of it I also looked it up online and see how she can love the patterns of markings. Very watery. 🎇
